Le cinéaste américain Frank Capra, né en Sicile le 19 mai 1897 dans une famille de paysans, est entré en cinéma par hasard. Il a réalisé des comédies aussi célèbres que L’Extravagant Mr. Deeds, Mr. Smith au Sénat, Arsenic et vieilles dentelles ou encore La Vie est belle, mais aussi Pourquoi nous combattons, une série de documentaires de propagande défendant l’engagement des États-Unis dans la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ses films sont comme des remparts à l’adversité, comme les refuges d’une innocence revigorante.
